Today we celebrate Juneteenth, also known as Emancipation Day or Freedom Day. It commemorates the end of slavery in the United States. On this day in 1865, Union troops arrived in Galveston, Texas, with the news that more than 250,000 enslaved African American people in the state were free. This day came to be known as #Juneteenth, now officially a federal holiday. As we observe Juneteenth, let’s honor the legacy of those who fought for freedom and equality. Happy Juneteenth to everyone celebrating this important day!
